Watch: the Story Trailer of Inception-Inspired Past Cure

Phantom 8 have released a new trailer for their recently announced title, Past Cure.

Past Cure follows a former elite-solider who was detained and experimented on against their will. The experiments have ultimately worked out in protagonist Ian’s favour however as he uses his new abilities -including thought manipulation and telekinesis- to exact revenge on those who betrayed and captured him.

While pitched like a revenge-led action-shooter -a genre mostly left to Remedy these days- the trailer shows off several peculiar, dream-like sequences which are occupied by odd shapes and distorted time. This, no doubt, is where the cited influence of Inception ties into the game.

Hints at the story thus far have indicated that there’s more than simple high-tech psionics at play; alongside the scientists and military enemies there’s said to be someone otherworldly at the heart of the mystery.

In addition to details on the game, the press release also included some information on the nascent studio behind it: “The innovative Berlin Studio Phantom 8 consists of an ambitious team, who have made it their goal to pursue new directions in game development. Through experience in modern 3D scanning and motion capture technologies, Phantom 8 is clearly different from other independent studios and relies on strong partners and technology providers like 3Lateral, Cubic Motion, Metric Minds and Take1. Thanks to 3Lateral, known in the industry for high quality face scans and rigs, Past Cure will be one of a handful of games that utilizes their new effective method of face rigging.”
