Sequel to Aggrelos – Aggrelos 2 – launches on August 27th
Released in 2018, Aggelos is a critically acclaimed action-RPG that’s very clearly retro inspired, aiming to be a love letter to classics like Wonder Boy. Visually, it matches that very early Sega look, but there are modern mechanics and learnings to bring the game to the modern era. The sequel, the perhaps obviously named Aggrelos 2, has now been announced, with an expected release date of August this year.
We previously reviewed Aggelos:
“I think that overall, the game is great. While there are some problems with the difficulty and controls in some parts of the game, it’s a gorgeous action platformer with pumping chiptunes that really hits its key points. It’s not terribly long, at about five or six hours, but the ‘classic difficulty’ more than makes up for it as you feel triumphant at overcoming each challenge along the way.”
Aggelos 2 is full of lightning-fast combat and precision plaforming. You’ll continue in the role of Aggelos, who is in the highest order of angels, as chosen by Balro. You have to venture through the Kingdom of Lumen, which is under siege, with the Gods facing imminent defeat at the hands of the Army of Darkness. This time you’ll have to take on a shadowy new form in order to strafe between both the light and dark realms as you seek to save the heavens.
The two realms are interconnected, but also feature their own unique characteristics, enemies, and secrets. Each of these different realms require you to switch between an Angel form and Demon form. Along with action and survival, there are also different puzzles to take on, as well as an orb-based levelling system to boost your strength and allow you to keep progressing through the story.
Aggelos 2 will be releasing physically on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, along with a digital version on Steam, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.
