E3 2017 | Quake Champions E3 Trailer, & Closed Beta Update Trailer

The last instalment into the Quake series was, Quake Live, which was back in 2010, but if you don’t count that, then you’ll be looking at Enemy Territory: Quake Wars from 2007. Either way, it’s been many years since a Quake title, and Bethesda announced Quake Champions during their E3 2017 conference.

The trailer that was shown was the below, Lockbox Arena trailer, it shows off the world that is currently in Beta, but still looks nice and reminiscent to the previous Quake titles. Oh, and blood. There’s a lot of it. Somehow the Lockbox arena seems to blend high quality visuals with a simplistic style that fans of the older titles will love.

There are traps littered around the Lockbox map, and portals, gaps, holes, and more. We get to see some futuristic, and surreal weapons being used, one in particular allows the player to shoot at the floor and propel themselves upwards giving them a boost in their jump.

You can join the Beta by signing up here.

Also revealed was another trailer for the update for the Closed Beta that you can view here which shows off more maps, teasing the upcoming environments we can expect to be jumping around, and maybe even….snowboarding around? There’s a snowboard at some point. I’m fairly sure that’s a snowboard. Skill is said to be rewarding, which could mean that we’re to see a skill upgrade system. BJ Blazkowicz will be playable, if you’re unsure on who he is, he’s the main character from Wolfenstien, and we’ll also see three new maps being added to the closed beta. A “tri-bolt” weapon will be added, and a load of new features that aren’t fully announced yet will be added.

The update will also see the Closed Beta being left live 24/7, and more keys are to be sent out should you sign up.
