Subnautica Gets “Silent Running” Update, Sea Creatures & Fire Extinguishers

Subnautica, the aquatic open world, survival has landed another update, this time bringing a stealthy mode for the Cyclops submarine.

Subnautica is all about exploring, and when it comes to exploring the depths, players can use the Cyclops submarine to safely travel, and with speed. We’ve already seen the Percursor update arrive that brought many updates, including a large structure to explore.

This, “Silent Running” update brings a mode for the Cyclops submarine to fall silent while travelling, essentially entering stealth mode. External lights switch off, internal lights flick to red, and the submarine runs at a slow pace.

Other updates to the title are arriving with this update, such as the ability to scan terrain for nearby topography. A button that will extinguish any fires on the submarine, and a fifteen second shield that protects against attacks, but comes at a high energy cost.

The UI of the Cyclops ship has been improved, and a new holographic status display shows players the ships status. A creature detection system is also in place, allowing players to keep their wits about their exterior environments. Decoys can also be launched to divert dangerous creatures.

The ship is also more vulnerable now and is at risk of being attacked by creatures of the deep. Fire extingishers are now situated around the ship. Should the submarine become wrecked, players can salvage materials and use them for future additions, but players will no longer be able to repair or deconstruct the submarine.

Additionally, there are more UI improvements, resources are getting final models, and some eggs are getting their final models too. There are also two new precursor caves to explore. You can read the whole changelog here.

We ran a review on the game pre-Precursor update, and you can watch that video here.

Subnautica is available for PC and Mac, it also has support for VR and it is still in Early Access.
