What type of game is it?
Strategy
What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?
A turn-based strategy adventure that uses rules from chess to govern the movement of select units.
What do we like most about it?
There’s apparently over 100 different maps in the game, and the developers have detailed a variety of mission types that will be distributed over them – frankly the game sounds vast, and the idea of implementing chess moves into a turn-based game certainly sounds like it could work really well if executed correctly.
I especially like the fact that there’s a campaign tying these missions together. However, I do worry about how much repetition will start to wear away at the novelty – Chess is a game that becomes increasingly more stressful and tactical as you get better at it. How will the developers balance the mechanics in a way to keep it fun and interesting?
When’s it due?
Chessaria: The Tactical Adventure is currently on Kickstarter, it’s pledges are listing May 2017 as the approximate fulfilment date. When it launches it will do so on PC, Mac & Linux.
