Axiom Verge is heading to physical retail on PS4, PS Vita, and Wii U as announced by Badland Games and Thomas Happ Games.

In a press release, it was announced that the title, Axiom Verge, a Metroidvania-inspired shooter is launching for physical retail on the PS4, PlayStation Vita, and Wii U in Q2 of 2017. The physical edition will be launching as a “Multiverse Edition”, specially tailored for Axiom Verge fans. The title originally launched in 2015 and soon saw its way onto, Xbox One, PS4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, PC, Mac, and Linux.

The title is set in Sudra, an alien world in which protagonist, Trace awakes. He sets out, unsure of where he is, and begins a quest to destroy, Athetos.

“Fans have been asking for a physical retail version of Axiom Verge since the game originally launched. I’m extremely excited that the Multiverse Edition will be coming to retail soon. As a solo developer, it’s always been a dream of mine to see a game that I made end up on the store shelves!” – Thomas Happ (Founder, Thomas Happ Games)

The physical release will include, as expected, a copy of the game, but will also include a deluxe booklet, with developer commentary and artwork. There will be a double sided posted, and a making-of documentary as a DVD. There will be a standard edition available, but only on PS4.

While it has been confirmed that the title will launch on PS4, PlayStation Vita, and Wii, the press release states that more platforms are still yet to be confirmed, so we could see a boxed Wii U, and Xbox One version coming yet.

The games key features are,

  • Expansive non-linear exploration of multiple labyrinthine, interlocking areas.
  • Tons of unique tools and abilities, loads of weapons, and bundles of health/power/attribute upgrades.
  • Combat dozens of unique creatures and bosses.
  • In-game glitches allowing you to break past the boundaries of normal gameplay.
  • Speedrun mode: Play with a streamlined interface and additional features.

The trailer can be found below, and the title will arrive on physical discs in retails sometime in Q2 of 2017 PS4, PS Vita, and Wii U. The Multiverse Edition will be available for £24.99 whereas the PS4 only standard edition will be £14,99.
