Kingsway, Natty Operating System RPG, Launching Next Week; Trailer WIthin

Slay pop-ups, manage your folders, and organise your desktop as you save the world in Kingsway.

It’s the first time that we’ve mentioned Kingsway, the desktop RPG from Andrew Morrish and publisher Adult Swim Games, on the site. Yet, here we are, on the cusp of the game’s launch, talking about the game, and discussing it’s latest trailer.

Kingsway, which was announced back in early March of this year, is an RPG dressed up as a retro (Win 95 reminiscent) operating system. Players will use desktop folders to store their inventory, and fight intrusive monsters which appear as pop-ups as they navigate around the game world. Each attempt at the game is different due to the random generation of the world, which -when added to the fact that you don’t get back up when you fall down stone-cold dead- is designed to maximize replayability.

There’s a lot to enjoy about the visual design choices made for the game. I admire the fact that the quests interface opens up like a little mailbox, that there’s a chance to dodge enemy arrows if you can click the button to clear the message before the progress bar fills up – like canceling an accidental file transfer. There’s a lot to like here, especially if you remember tussling with Windows 95 back in the day.

Here’s what the game’s Steam page has to say about itself,

Kingsway is an RPG in which you use a mock operating system to manage your adventure. Every element of the game is a part of the operating system. Enemies and traps are popups, backpacks are the file folders where you organize your items, and quests are emails. The world of Kingsway is randomly generated every time you play, and death is permanent.

-Choose from various character types each with their own special skills.
-Discover a strange land of monsters, bandits, and other adventurers.
-Choose to be good or evil by choosing to help your fellow adventurers, defeating powerful monsters, or steal and murder your way to the top.
-Defeat enemies and plunder crypts and caves for treasure.
-Complete Quests for extra special treasure.
-Organize the interface to suit your play style.

Kingsway launches on the 18th of July for Windows PC. It is expected to launch for $9.99. You can find it over on Steam through the below link.
