Clone Drone in the Danger Zone drops in-game currency to move to content packs

0

When we reviewed Clone Drone the Danger Zone back in 2017, I don’t think any of us had thought that further down the line the developers would introduce features like team-play, level-creators or microtransactions, however they all ultimately made their way to the fast-paced, surprisingly story rich, sci-fi gladiator simulator.

Well today’s news is that the previously mentioned microtransactions are now gone, kaput, dead. The previous currency, which could be used to unlock skins and weapon models, has now been delisted, with the skins and models combined into Supporter Packs. These packs are simple DLC bundles, although those who still have some of the Clonebux can still spend them on these packs – and there’s been an economy adjustment to ensure that you don’t miss out.

Metal Under Tension in Clone Drone in the Danger Zone

The reason for the pivot is simple: “After launching the update that introduced Clonebux, a lot of people came out strongly against these types of microtransactions in an otherwise premium game. After discussing your comments with the dev team, it quickly became clear to us there was no form or implementation of in-game currency that would not create a bad vibe for people exhausted by them in other games.”

This change also means that Xbox, PlayStation and Switch players can also access the premium cosmetics.

They’re not the only changes coming, Team Battles have had bug fixes and emotes, and you can now play as the two commentators once you complete some of the new achievements that come with the patch. Doborog Games also confirmed that Clone Drone in the Danger Zone would be coming to mobile phones, something they’re happy to move forward on now that they’ve settled on a control set-up that works well for them on touchscreen devices.

Clone Drone in the Danger Zone is available now on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
