Kickstarter: Action-Adventure Game Arbiter Seeking Crowdfunding

Solo developer Jordan Scott has launched his single player action game Arbiter on Kickstarter.

Arbiter is set in a vivid, almost ying-yang world full of history and magic. The world is plagued by Ethers and Umbras, demonic spirits who can only be defeated by the other – an Ether can only be defeated by an Umbra, and an Umbra only by an Ether. Unless, of course, you are an Arbiter – who can transform between the two spirits to fight against them and cleanse the land.

You play as Ashe, a young boy who is the new Arbiter. You must learn how to master transformation to complete your mission and save humanity.

Despite being a solo developer project, Arbiter sounds ambitious – the estimated five hours of gameplay will challenge you with fast-paced combat. The game is story-driven, with six levels filled with puzzles, NPCs, items, upgrades, optional bosses and secret areas throughout. Plus, enemies, levels, and your own resources will all be affected by your current form. Despite being short, it will be designed to have a variety of endings and to be filled with enough extra things to find in each level that you will want to play it again and again.

It has been heavily influenced by popular series such as Kingdom Hearts, Dark Souls and the Legend of Zelda – and you can definitely get a sense of those influences while watching the Kickstarter announcement trailer.

Jordan Scott has been working on Arbiter for the last five months. He already has a lot of experience with making games, stating “I’ve been making games for about seven years now, the most recent of which was RWBY: Grimm Eclipse based on the animated series, RWBY. I made a fan-game for RWBY by myself and after releasing it to the public was brought on officially by Rooster Teeth Productions (creators of the series) to turn it into an actual game!”

The Kickstarter funds of $10,000 Canadian will go towards concept artists, an audio engineer and voice actors – to really bring this project to life.

Intrigued? There’s a polished, pre-alpha demo available to download from itch.io. This gives you a preview of Arbiter’s look and feel including the game’s combat, with enemy encounters as well as a boss battle at the end.

Arbiter is currently seeking $10,000 CA before 29th July 2017, with the full release of the game anticipated in December 2018. You can find out more and back the Kickstarter campaign here.
