Greenlight Highlight | Tartarus
Title: Tartarus
Developer: Abyss Gameworks
[Greenlight Page]
What type of game is it?
Puzzle
What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?
Bad News: Tartarus is set to collide with the planets surface if somebody doesn’t restart the ships systems.
Good News: You can reach them.
Bad News: You have no technical training.
What do we like most about it?
The dark and moody setting with it’s anachronistic computers, VHS’ and Kodak photos is immediately reminiscent of Alien in all the right ways. The fact that the developers have taken such a setting -which in Isolation many of us wanted to slow down and pry around- and made us have to slow down and pry around is just perfect.
Visually the game looks completely stunning, and while I’m not sure how long a careful, heavily obstructed journey to the ship’s bridge will take, it certainly looks like it will be a visual and atmospheric delight to make the journey.
How, of course, tension and player direction are controlled is going to be the main issue here – although the trailer has already hinted that there are other crew on board who will be talking you through certain procedures. Maybe it is in these other crew that we find the immersive storytelling the Steam greenlight page promises.
When’s it due?
Tartarus is currently listed as ready to launch in early 2017. It is expected to launch for Windows PC & Mac.
