What type of game is it?

Simultaneous Turn Based Strategy

What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?

Eight Kingdoms are readying for war, you are a spymaster in one of those kingdoms; whispering in your lord’s ears, planting traps for your foreign counterparts, and maintaining your position of power within the court.

What do we like most about it?

As an avid fan of Crusader Kings, and, well, grand strategy games in general this is right up my street. The idea of little decisions potentially snowballing themselves through a world populated with other characters who are potentially up to just as much mischief is truly fantastic; and I’m always pleased when I see a new one.

Now, to get more in depth, I think I’m most pleased by the fact that this could well have simply started off -and ended up- as a game where you play one of X kings and simply sabotage and invade; but, the developer has gone through the motions of separating you from the power itself, ensuring that every decision you do isn’t just weighed up against the rival nations, but also against the other members of the court, and even the nation’s population. Giving good advise will surely get you better trusted, but it’s always easier to destroy than it is rebuilt, and those in the court may well be -either for greed, or through the influence of rival courts- attempting to remove the stability and power that you wield over your liege’s ear.

The fact that you can decimate populations with illnesses and poxes as well is interesting; leading a nation torn apart by war weariness and illness is sure to only end in disaster, and each of the toys at your disposal are also at the hands of the rival spymasters out there.

Is it just me, or is that really, really interesting and fun sounding?

When’s it due?

Tales of a Spymaster is currently planned to launch in 2017 for PC, Mac & Linux.
