What type of game is it?
Isometric Real Time Strategy
What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?
A more tactical twist on the classic two-party real time strategy games, Move your troops from cover to cover as you try to capture buildings and win the day.
What do we like most about it?
I think it’s the fact that it’s actually more of a tactics game, akin to Company of Heroes, Sudden Strike, and Blitzkrieg. These were games where a well positioned unit could be a complete gamechanger, however to properly use your troops you needed to be in complete command; aware of your composition and every pockets of troops you have. That is what Fractured State looks like to me, and that looks great.
Further cementing my above statement, each unit in game has it’s own accuracy, ammo count, reloading time and is heavily reliant on cover. The main difference from those classics – outside of the much brighter visuals – comes from mod support being built in from the ground up, and territorial bonuses from claiming milestones along the map paths.
When the game first went up on Greenlight on the 26th it featured four maps, and each of the two factions had four troops each. Pretty simple, but enough to balance out over a competitive game. However, since then there’s already been confirmation of more maps ready for inclusion, and all of these will straddle alongside the planned campaign (and additional units) currently in the road map for the game.
When’s it due?
Fractured State looks set to launch into early access shortly after the game passes green light. It’s planned to launch for PC, Mac & Linux.
