Texas Hold it — Toilet-Based Mind Games

Texas Hold It, from the creators of Cyanide and Happiness and similar card game Joking Hazard, have put together a compact card game about avoiding “piss” or holding it in to avoid being whizzed on by a varied group of cowboys and bandits.

The key focus in Texas Hold It is to attempt to bait your friends into making a decision by either lying, moving cards about or forcing them into making a decision while giving away as little — or as much — information as possible. You also need to avoid directionally based pee or farts as to safely use the bathroom without being sabotaged by one of your fellow toilet users.

There are four choices to be made in the game: Peek, swap, piss or hold it. Each choice allows you to either look at cards, move the cards around, use a safe urinal or hold it until a safer opportunity comes along, earning you points based on whether you managed to use the urinal without getting peed or farted on.

Deception seems to be the key to winning Texas Hold It. I played with one other person, but with the combinations available of up to six people this can get really confusing fast and leaves you with fewer options to safely relieve yourself as every turn ticks by.

The cards and card figures are all nice quality and clear and easy to use. The rules seemed a little confusing at first, but as soon as you put them into practice it all falls into place and as soon as one of you has either won three safe tokens or accumulated three piss tokens you either win or are out of the game until someone collects enough safe tokens.

One other part to point out with the box, is just how handy it is that the cards and parts are all in a nice, compact sliding-drawer style section to both keep everything neat and contained and ensure that nothing falls out when you open — it unlike traditional boxed games where everything just goes back in and fall over when it’s re-opened.

Overall, Texas Hold It is a great game to play with friends (or friend, in my case) and the more friends that you use the more mayhem and mind games you can start to set up in the hopes of finding a safe sanitary sanctuary.

If you are looking to maybe get your mind out of the gutter and into a potential new love life then the Joking Hazard team have also put together a game called Master Dater, with which maybe you put together your ideal date, one piece at a time.

Texas Hold It can be purchased on Amazon.
