Subnautica 2 Sails Past 5 Million Wishlists Ahead of Early Access
Subnautica 2 is fast approaching its Early Access launch date, and Unknown Worlds recently announced that it’s gathered over 5 million wishlists in anticipation.
The original game launched out of Early Access way back in 2018, and is beloved by gamers all over. Our own Jorge reviewed the 1.0 release, calling it “…very balanced and defin[ing] the genre perfectly. You get plenty of bang for your buck and I cannot recommend it enough.” Subnautica received a lot of support from Unknown Worlds, with major updates like Precursor and Silent Running, so we anticipate a high level of support for the sequel.
For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Subnautica 2 is a survival game, set deep underwater on an alien world. Whilst built as a solo experience, you can also play online co-op with up to three other players, with crafting and base building being huge parts of the gameplay loop.
As the Steam page reads, “Subnautica 2 is an underwater survival adventure game set on an all-new alien world. It is the next chapter in the Subnautica universe, developed by Unknown Worlds. Driven from your home by ongoing conflict, Alterra offers you the chance at a new life. But as the colony ship CICADA shepherds you and your fellow Pioneers to your new home, something goes awry. The ship’s AI insists that your mission should continue. Stranded and faced with near-insurmountable odds, you must do everything in your power to survive. The future of humanity on this world is in your hands.”
After the huge success of the originals Early Access run, Subnautica 2 is currently being designed with Early Access in mind, ensuring player feedback is a “cornerstone of [the] development process”.
If you fancy getting your feet wet right now, the original game is currently on sale across all platforms, so there’s never been a better time to dive in, or if you want to jump straight into the sequel pre-installs are now open!
