Razer unveils the Base Station V3 Chroma, which features a very cool, dynamic switch

Over the years, I have never really understood the point of a headset stand. In most cases it feels like something that doesn’t have much of a purpose and takes over some of your desk. However, Razer has created their next-gen, smart RGB headset stand, the Base Station V3 Chroma, which features wireless headset detection and subsequently allows you to customise what happens when the stand is in use –  an incredibly cool (and actually useful) feature.

We actually got the chance to demo the Base Station V3 Chroma at Gamescom, where I found myself incredibly suprised that nobody had ever made this sort of product before. You see, this is a headset stand that features a switch on the top, where your headset would normally rest. Placing something on it will then trigger something – anything – depending on what you want it to do. For example, you could have it so that when the headset is on the mount your music will play through your computer as per usual, but then when you pick up your headset it automatically triggers your computer switching to play your main speaker through your headset instead.

This can also be used to do a BUNCH of things through Razer’s macro system. You can make it so that when you pick up your headset, maybe to start your evening gaming session, it automatically launches your game and sets up your microphone.

The Base Station V3 Chroma has a lot of potential thanks to the macro customisation, and you could theoretically stack that so that it can do certain things based on other inputs. Hold down 1 while lifting your headset might open up Zoom or Teams, for instance.

Razer is known for their colorful lighting, so the Base Station v3 Chroma has, of course got their iconic lighting which can be synched up with other products from them. It’s also got three USB hubs at the back of it, giving you a bit of extra ports if you’d like, which can help reduce cable cluttering.

I do think that the Base Station v3 Chroma will be a game changer for those that want to use their PC without having all sorts of faff and set-up. Gamers and streamers alike, and even people like me that work from home, can really benefit from this sort of seamless connectivity and control.

You can pick up a Base Station V3 Chroma from the Razer store, where you can also find out more information about that and the wider range.
