PaRappa The Rapper Remastered (And LocoRoco, Patapon) Announced with Trailer

PlayStation Rhythm Game, and awkwardly capitalised, classic PaRappa The Rapper has had a remastered edition announced for the PS4.

NanaOn-Sha’s ’96 (’97 in NA & EU) classy rhythm game PaRappa The Rapper is set to undergo the remastering treatment to mark it’s -gulp- 20th anniversary.

The news comes as Sony rolled out a trailer during the PlayStation Experience event this year.

The trailer also noted at the end that the fabulous Locoroco and Patapon titles from the PSP would be undergoing the same treatment.

PaRappa the Rapper saw you matching key presses to the beat of the game, and as such can be considered a rudimentary predecessor to the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games that dominated the late ’00s. As PaRappa plays have to try and with the heart of Sunny Funny through a variety of challenges, each nonsensically set to a funky beat.

PaRappa hasn’t been completely absent during that time, the game had a tie-in sequel called UmJammer Lammy a few years later, and receieved a full sequel in 2001. PaRappa was also ported to the PS3 & Vita on the game’s tenth anniversary. He also featured in Sony’s take on Smash Bros –  PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

There’s no confirmed release date for PaRappa The Rapper Remastered, however we do know it will launch for PS4. There’s currently a demo available.
