Hello Neighbor Pre-Purchases Now Available on Steam, Xbox One

Dynamic Pixels and TinyBuild have opened up pre-purchasing for their upcoming stealth-horror title, Hello Neighbor.

Hello Neighbor, which was originally announced back in mid-2015 as the game took to both Steam Greenlight and Kickstarter, is now available for pre-purchasing over on Steam.

The game, from publishers tinyBuild and developers Dynamic Pixels, sees players investigating and exploring the house of their peculiar neighbour who is hiding something mysterious in their basement. Players must stealthily make their way around their neighbour’s labyrinthine home, evading both the owner and the traps that they’ve set up around the home. When the game was originally pitched it was done so on the basis that the neighbour would become increasingly more intelligent based on player actions – if you keep climbing in through a window then he will barricade it; keep getting in through the front room and he’ll trap the door.

Players who pre-purchase the game will receive instant alpha access to four builds of the game, including the current build – Alpha 4. The alphas have been very popular thus far, with several hundred-million collective views on Youtube.

Those unsure about committing money at this early stage, who would like to get some playtime with the game before, can play the ‘pre-alpha’ demo through a link on the game’s Steam page, which you can find a link to at the bottom of the post.

Here’s the game’s features list from the Steam page,

“Suspenseful horror gameplay (not jump scares) that focuses on sneaking around your neighbor’s house

Constantly evolving experience where the Neighbor’s AI counters your moves, and learns from what you do

Sandbox-style gameplay with plenty of environmental interaction and physics”

Personally, I’m very interested in any games which claim to advance dynamic AI, and the idea of the neighbour dynamically deploying new traps and tricks around the home -as well as actively using short-cuts to flank you- is an extremely promising and compelling argument in favour of the game. Most interesting however is the fact that the press release, which had announced that pre-purchasing had opened, also declared that nobody had managed to best the current build – a true challenge if I ever heard one.

There’s no current word on if you get early access to the alpha builds if you pre-purchase on the Xbox One – however the place to pre-order -if you so wish- can be found here.

Hello Neighbor launches on PC and Xbox One on August 29th.
