What type of game is it?
2D Fighting Game
What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?
Rock-Paper-Scissors turned into a side-on-fighter with online multiplayer as well as a single player mode.Tag between three fighters in order to best fight your foes.
What do we like most about it?
The idea of tagging between three characters, each with unique strengths, is nothing new; but, this is the first time I’ve seen it done in the 2D platform fighter style, and I’m really impressed at how well it looks to work. The combat looks extremely fast paced – with a comment making an apt comparison to Smash Bros – and the fact the game has the fast, charging attacks in it really bode well for it being a tense, competitive multiplayer game. If the net code (when the developers get to it) is solid then MorphoGoons could end up as quite a successful presence in competitive gaming.
Also impressive is the music selection, which looks to be a really interesting, if unusual, mix of music which wouldn’t normally be found in games of this sort. Without hearing the full soundtrack I couldn’t possibly comment in whole, but the music picked out for the trailer was one of the reasons I later returned to rewatch it.
Currently the game has six different characters and three arenas; I’m assuming the six characters are split over the three different disciplines as opposed to six sets of three, but that’s absolutely fine as the developers clearly consider that the minimum to get the game going into beta while they add more content.
When’s it due?
MorphoGoons is already in an Early Access ready state and the developers intend to launch it into that state shortly after a successful greenlight. Currently the game is only being launched for Windows PC.
