Greenlight Highlight | Daedalus
Title: Daedalus
Developer: Black Cloud Studios
[Greenlight Page]
What type of game is it?
Thriller, Interactive Fiction
What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?
You are aboard a space station orbiting Venus, about to be relieved of duty to return home when you start having nightmares, and they start coming true. Can you hold out until help arrives, and will the rest of the crew hold it together long enough to keep the team safe, and mentally strong?
What do we like most about it?
The plot of the game is very interesting, cinematic even, although I’m not sure how a game of any length could come from such a plot-line (as there’s a crew of less than ten) I’m certainly interested in finding out.
There is some controversy revolving around the greenlight page itself as the developers are currently working on several other titles, and they also sought funding for the projects in a similar way to this. That said, if the games are out and improving, and the development team is plenty and equipped enough to handle multiple projects then there’s not really too much of a reason to not get the next project underway. I couldn’t possibly comment on the state of the other titles though, as I’ve only seen them in passing as they travelled through greenlight.
What can’t be denied is that the game is certainly intriguing in the way it has made the choice to put story and suspense first, something that I’ve -as of yet- not seen handled well outside of select text-based interactive fiction games. If the developer can pull off a crew of flawed, in-fighting characters all scared, and pushed to their wits end… and they can deliver it fully, then that is a game I would definitely play.
That said, I won’t be backing this on Kickstarter as I feel there is not enough details on gameplay, screens or endings. I will however be keeping an eye on it.
When’s it due?
Daedalus is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with fulfilment dates listed of October 2017. The game is planned to launch on Windows, Mac & Linux.
