What type of game is it?

RPG Meets World Simulator

What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?

Imagine an RPG where the world actually grows around you, bartenders grow old and die, you can marry NPCs but sell them to slavery and face the repercussions. The world never stops changing as your character ages.

What do we like most about it?

The dynamic, evolving world is a fantastic idea, and the fact that time realistically passes throughout the game – ageing and shifting the various persons about the world – means that this could well be the promised RPG that we were expecting years ago with Fable 2.

That aside, the game combines a fantastic first person combat system where you can increase the amount of power you put into spells via sliders, bells and whistles. There’s also a first person exploratory mode with point and click style elements; and also a hex based birds-eye over-world that looks wonderful.

Oh, and, as with that game I alluded to earlier, morality is a major tilting factor in the fate of the world, with you immediately able to disrespect elders, and emotional blackmail being on the table further down the line. It all seems very, very interesting. (Even if the trailer is extremely cheesy.)

When’s it due?

Archmage Rises is due out on PC & Mac in the first quarter of 2017.
