Distrust — The Thing Inspired Survival Adventure Game — Demo Now Live.

Isometric, Survival-Horror Strategy title receives demo ahead of August launch.

Heavily inspired by the suspense and setting of John Carpenter’s “The Thing,” Distrust sees a group of survivors fighting against both the environment and their own sleep-deprived paranoia as they attempt to survive procedurally generated maps.

A game that looks this impressive, features dynamic weather as this does, and promises to play out different effects in game based on the main character’s mentality, is certainly one to be looked out for.

Artem Bochkarev, Producer at the game’s publisher, Alawar Entertainment, said the following on the game: “Distrust is not your usual survival game. In addition to scavenging for food and equipment in a randomly generated map, players will have tons of quests, game events and plot twists to keep them coming back for more [–] Adding an even deeper psychological layer, character mutations caused by a lack of sleep can range from seemingly harmless, such as a survivor giggling uncontrollably or quoting Shakespeare, to dangerous, where the survivor may see his partner as a monster and try to kill him.”

Players control two characters from a roster of fifteen, and can freely switch between the two they have chosen. This ties into the later stages of the game, as when characters become unstable they will start to see things which do not exist, and so players will need to use both viewpoints as to tell what is real or not.

You can find the latest trailer below, due to the development team not having English (Other language versions are also available) as a first language it can be a bit hammy, but the message is clear.

Distrust launches for Windows PC on the 23rd of August.
