Darksiders Warmastered Edition (Now) Released For PC, Free Upgrade for Existing Owners
Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, from THQ Nordic, an upgraded version of the 2010 Action RPG, has released onto PC via Steam and GOG. Owners of the original will receive a free update which upgrades their version to this new, awkwardly named, version.
THQ Nordic have been doing nice things to the Darksiders IP since they acquired it (and the THQ name) from the remains of THQ as the company broke apart over the end of 2012, and start of 2013.
Last years’s Darksiders II: Deathinitive edition was a very well done upgrade for the title, the second in a planned five-part-series, and also brought the game to the current generation market.
Now (well, last week regarding home consoles) their remaster of the first entry in the series, which underwent resolution boosts as well as receiving overhauled graphic options, has also launched (onto PC).
The series, for those unaware, was planned to see The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse journey through the ruins of existence as they try to undo the prematurely summoned apocalypse. Gameplay was a combination of a classic, room-clearing hack and slash, but with ability unlocks that tied into your attacks, and unlocked new areas of the game. Darksiders II also introduced a very cool challenge tower, as well as literally stacks of procedural loot.
People who already own Darksiders on GOG or Steam will have recieved a free upgrade. Otherwise it’s down very, very, very cheap on both platforms at the moment, so the curious should definitely take a look.
Curious console gamers who are reading this may be surprised to find that it launched with minimal fanfare on Xbox One, PS4 & Wii U last week.
