Star Wars Unlimited is a fast growing and widely popular TCG featuring some of the worlds most recognised characters. It’s simple to play but hard to master and today I’m going to go through one of the events that are on offer that’s available in most local areas: Store Showdowns.
Store Showdown’s are a small tournament based in a local venue, players construct a legal premier deck that currently consists of sets 4 – 7 (this is Jump to Lightspeed, Legends of the Force, Secrets of Power and A Lawless Time) and is made up of a at least 50 cards and an optional side board of 10 cards.
Most venues that host Star Wars Unlimited weekly play events will likely offer a store showdown and usually offers prize support and some exclusive promotional materials. For the most recent store showdown for Lawless time it featured a Rio Durant card for participants as well as a legendary Darth Maul card for those that finished in the top 8, top 4, finalists and the champion.
One of the best parts of a store showdown is that literally anyone can take part, if you’ve never played before you can give it a go and see how you fare, if you’re a seasoned veteran with some crazy ideas for a deck anything goes as long as it’s in the premier format.
I have been playing since March and have loved every bit of it. When A Lawless Time was released, discovering all of the cards and artwork was amazing so stepping into a casual but competitive format was another new thrill for me. It also helps that with a bit of luck and a very aggressive Sebulba deck,I managed to win my very first store showdown and received my Maul champion card as well as some lawless time packs from my local venue.

Although store showdowns are generally held for each set there are other events available if one isn’t happening, the upcoming pre-release event for the new set Ashes of the Empire set will likely be hosted at a lot of venues across the world and will let players open some packs early and battle it out in a similar tournament style.
