King of Tokyo, the iconic tabletop game, has now released on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox, the launch also sees some exclusive limited editions released, featuring their own special features.

King of Tokyo, the board game, was previously reviewed here on B3:

King of Tokyo has been out for years now and there are numerous expansions and alternatives, but it remains a formula that is yet to be beaten by any imitator. With the recent disappointment of Dwayne Johnson’s awful Rampage movie, video game fans looking for their giant monster fix could certainly do worse than to get it here — especially with several friends and a couple of beers on a lazy Saturday afternoon.”

The physical edition of King of Tokyo for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch features not only the full game, but also 8 evolutions cards, a cardboard figurine and a Blockbuster Bro Monster Board.

For those unfamiliar with the King of Tokyo board game, it has you playing as a gigantic monster, wreaking havoc against everything in your path! You can roll dice, which are then used to create the best combinations to heal, attack, purchase cards and earn Victory Points. You must adapt your strategy to seize the title of King of Tokyo, at just the right moment, and then strike your opponents all at once, holding the position, similar to how ‘King of the Hill’ game modes work in shooters.

This digital version of the game has both a solo mode and a local multiplayer mode, so that you can take on customizable matches with various difficulty levels through bots or challenge up to five of your friends to play against you.

Of course, you can choose any of the six iconic monsters; Gigazaur, Cyber Kitty, Alienoid, King, Mecha Dragon or Space Penguin. The graphics and sounds are meant to make a fully immersive experience with fantastic monster animations. It’s really neat to see this modern classic translated from the table to the digital realm.
