Latest Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap Gameplay Shows Switching Between Old/New Visuals

A video segment on GameSpot’s GameSpot Gameplay YouTube channel, showcased three minutes of new footage for the game, as well as the game’s ability to switch between both old & new versions of the game.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is, for those unaware, a remake of classic adventure (it would have been called a Metrodvania, if it didn’t predate the term) title Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap III; a game which saw you progressing through an interlinking world by transforming yourself (by defeating bosses) to unlock new traversal abilities.

As visible below, Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, will feature the ability to switch between both the 1989 Master System II version of the title, and Lizardcube’s upcoming remaster of the game.

We also get our first look at the final transformation – Hawk-man.

While there’s visual confirmation that we’ll be able to play the new music with both the old and the new version of the title, we only see the classic music running with the older visuals – be this simply a case of timing, or a case of deliberate concealment.

The video in question is below.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap  is set to launch later this year (the video says ‘in the next few months’) for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One & PC.
