The Great Whale Road to Leave Early Access 30th of March; Launch Trailer Within

Sunburned Games have announced that their strategy title The Great Whale Road will be leaving early access on the 30th of March.

The Great Whale Road, which has been in early access since the 28th of July last year, will launch with the full Dane campaign – which we did an extensive article on the first 1/3rd of last year. With Frank, and Frisian campaigns to launch in May & June respectively.

The game takes place in a realistic rendition of the Early Middle Ages, with no magic, but a focus on spirituality, as well as the culture and trade habits of the peoples of the Northern European Continental coastline. The game alternates between tula management in the dead months, and choice-driven adventure (and tough turn-based combat) in the active months. It has Banner Saga vibes, however feels a lot more fair and forgiving, and obviously lacks the fatality of a march of death; instead simply telling the tale of a local leader who uses the farming months to advance their quests and story.

Definitely a game to dip your toes into if you’re a fan of Banner Saga, XCOM & Battle Brothers, but why not be the judge of that yourself? You can find the latest trailer below.
