Spirit of the North 2 launches Anniversary Update and Soundtrack Release
Spirit of the North 2 has launched a music-related update, alongside its digital soundtrack, as a part of their Anniversary Update. For those not aware of it, who still clicked on the news, its a sequel to the popular Spirts of the North, and is a stunning, third-person adventure where you take on the role of a fox, on a quest to restore the lost guardians and return home.
We’ve previously reviewed the game:
“There’s an almost Legend of Zelda feel to this, with you utilising your new skill in a few different ways to master them before taking on a boss that requires quick use of that skill. It’s a fine system, and in fact it works fairly well here. A lot of the abilities are recycled from the previous game, but your raven companion also acquires some that help you along the way, so some things are fresh. You’ll be gliding and teleporting around a temple as you solve puzzles involving moving blocks and lighting sconces. It’s tame, but enjoyable. These are by far the strongest elements of the game which, interestingly, more closely resemble the first game in the series.”
The Spirit of the North 2 Anniversary Update introduces more story into the game through a special questline focusing on ten never-before-heard tracks from the digital soundtrack release. These have been transformed into in-game collectibles known as “Lost Melodies”.
Players will be able to discover these collectibles through the quest of Bard-Shaman, uncovering stories and fragments from the world connected to each piece of music. Once they have been discovered, players can then listen to that track by interacting with the Bard spirit in their home.
The music flows seamlessly with the other tracks, already in the game. It’s very neat to see music unlocked and used in this way, and it feels like a great way to tie the game to the digital soundtrack release.
