NieR: Automata Runs Second Live Stream, Gameplay Heavy
Yesterday, Platinum Games ran their second live stream thanks to the hosting of Square Enix, and it’s in this live stream that we are introduced to a huge range of gameplay videos, including collaboration weapons, new merchandise, Plug-In Chip Explanation, and sub-quests and bug explanations.
The live stream recording can be found below, and in case you want to skip ahead to certain parts, then I’ve added a list of timecodes just above the video.
The first gameplay we see features some generic running around as YoRHa No.2 Type B, which shortly turns into a look at the sub questing system. There seems to be a very awkward running and stopping system in place around this part, but that’s shunned aside when we get to see the quest system in action. The colours chosen for the menus are very nice, and not only that, but the transition that appears to switch between menus and gameplay is very fluid, creating what looks like a polygonal wipe.
The next piece of gameplay we get to see is the Plug In Chip System in action. This is a feature that allows players to customise their skills and abilities in the game. When using this chip you can throw more focus onto a specific skill of your choice. They work as a purchasable item, but can also be obtained from fallen enemies. The chips also come in varying capacities, and you can plug in several of these chips providing that your character has enough storage space.
A short while after that, we get given a look at the Iconic Crossover Weapons. The Dragon’s Quest, Cypress Stick expels numbers in the same style that Dragon’s Quest itself does. There’s also a look at the Final Fantasy XV, Engine Blade again showing off the FFXV styled effects that come from it when used.
There was also some new merchandise shown throughout the live stream, with some interesting items, such as a framed cover art, a smartphone case, Emil Cookies, Emil Cushions, and an Emil mini table. These items will be available and pre-ordered through Lawson and Loppi & Web.
Something else that came about in the live stream was the mention that Japanese Alt-Rock band, Amazarashi are working with Platinum Games, and Square Enix to bring a track called “Inochi ni Fusawashii” (Good for Life) to the game.
NieR: Automata is set for a Japan release on 23rd of February 2017, an American release on the 7th March, and a European release on the 10th March. It’s coming to PS4 first, but will make it’s way to PC at some point in 2017.
