Mini Boss Babble Episode 7: Part 2 – Digital Rights and Fair Use

Mini Boss Babble are smaller, one topic cuts from our otherwise extensive weekly podcast.

In this Mini Boss Babble we discuss a question raised by the recent fallout regarding a famous Youtuber uttering a word which, simply, shouldn’t ever be said. This event led to Campo Santa, creators of Firewatch, DMCA’ing the creator’s video of their game, as they felt the creator should no longer profit from their creation. As such, our topic revolves around who has a right to the created content, and whether ‘Fair Use’, a commonly quoted legal term, is valid.

As the topic is rather a deep one, views are definitely mixed. There’s a lot of elements to be taken into consideration; licensing, personality, community, creation, and distribution. As ‘streaming’ over ‘video’ feels like a natural extension of the ‘bundling around yer mates house to watch ’em play a few games’ the two mediums and their differences are touched on as well.

Terry first breaches the subject, while Jorge, Toby, and Dann all chime in with their thoughts.
