What type of game is it?

Exploration Adventure

What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?

An interesting exploration title where your lies, and the NPC’s lies, control the direction and effects of the story.

What do we like most about it?

Unfortunately the details for the game are especially light on the ground. There’s some very nice artwork spliced between panning shots of two people sitting against a tree – which really doesn’t give much in the way of story.

As a matter of fact it’s only when you spend some time reading the description and checking out the [Kickstarter page] (please do) the the planned mechanics and features of the game start to pan out.

All NPCs in the game are designed with sensitivities and personalities in mind; certain ones favouring humour, others having no patience; certain liking compliments and flattery, others shying away from the attention. With the four sliders, each with two extremes, in mind you set about playing to characters best sides as to advance the story in your favour – essentially a game about playing salesman to people’s hearts to tailor the story to your needs.

In addition to this, the same NPCs will recall remarks you’ve made previously and point out if they contradict. Examples given include telling a character that you are lactose intolerant but then drinking milk; or telling a character that your nephew is but nine years old, but later telling the same person that the nephew serves in the military.

And those points, as best highlighted by the Kickstarter page, are actually something quite interesting and refreshing. Especially if there’s a decent amount of characters (currently 16 planned) and switches and triggers within the game.

When’s it due?

Fan the Sea is due for release in December of 2017, when it launches it will do so for Windows PC.

Note: As of posting Fan the Sea has had it’s Steam Greenlight page removed. The original page did lack a solid trailer showing the choice effects throughout the game; hopefully it will return shortly with new trailer assets and a new page.
