Innovative Survival Game Everything is Crab Unveils Free 1.2 Update

0
Everything Is Crab puts the “survive” into the “Survivors” genre, with a myriad of ways to outwit, outrun and overpower the various denizens of its cute pixel-art world. Variety is truly Everything Is Crab’s strong suit, with runs ranging from precice parry-god gameplay to being an eldritch god with minion fetching you food. The 1.2 update arrives on August 13th with even more build options and QoL improvement, with the new evolutions even being made directly by winners in the community!

The survivors genre can seem oversaturated, but then something like Everything Is Crab will come along. Rather than simply being a “number go up” machine, Everything Is Crab takes a more freeform and build-crafting appraoch to the classic style. In our original review we said ” It has diverse enemy types with their own behaviours, a living world that cares (Or doesn’t) about the player and run-changing upgrades that completely alter the look of your character as you go. It got 150k sales in its first two days for a reason.”

Everything is Crab allowed me to amass an army of Ferrets…

The current evolutionary paths allow you to be everything from a tiny leech to a lumbering bear, and things only get crazier from here…

Everything Is Crab 1.2 Update Contents

Quality of Life

The 1.2 update allows mid-run saves so that you can safely play on Steamdeck without having to miss your train station, and the nice thing is that these saves are available in all 3 modes: Endless, challenge and Pressure. Ontop of that the runs themselves have been tweaked to have more environmental shelters like flora, rocks and trees. These aren’t just decorative, but help combat the changing weather effects in runs.

Brand New Evolutions

The most exciting content is the new evolution paths. Evolving in Everything Is Crab is a highlight of the game, allowing you to diversify runs and create your very own Weird Little Guy.

The 3 new evolutions are community-made, which only adds to the charm and chaos of the whole situation. The winners after over 10,000 submissions were _de3, .telandria, and abelhawk. The new evolutions are:

  • Pedal Glands. These glands allow you to excrete slime and mucus (delightful) which can slow enemies and help your terrain adaptation. The pinnacle upgrades add poison or a complete slowing effect.
  • Sticky Tongue. This evolution adds a long, sticky tongue like that of a frog. This provides more crowd control opportunities as you can pull your target around. Maybe you can tame an army of minions and use your tongue to pull hapless prey into thier midst?
  • Spinnerets. This final evolution allows you to deploy web. Specialisations include creating eggs and gaining movement speed to chase down web-twined prey.

No more on-screen cursor for controllers

A trend controller players will be all-too familiar with: the on-screen cursor. It’s perfectly serviceable, and it was good enough for Destiny, but the ease-of-use and speed at which you can navigate even simple menus is darastically better now that Everything Is Crab has proper controller menu snapping. You can still enable and use the on-screen cursor, but having proper implimentation will surely make the Steamdeck experience more enjoyable.

The Everything Is Crab 1.2 update launches on August 13th for all owners of the game, which is available on Steam
