Synth Riders’ latest update adds hand tracking for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S
Long-running VR rhythm game Synth Riders’ next update is a big one, adding controller-free gameplay to the Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S versions of the game. Not only that, but it’s going to roll out across each of the 200+ tracks that already exist for the game.
Synth Riders is a rhythm game that plays perfectly into VR – with you moving your hands and dancing along to the songs that appear in front of you. We previously reviewed Synth Riders:
“The majority of Synth Riders gameplay is centered around a lack of directional requirement, there are no arrows stipulating directional movement against the artifacts generated. A simple touch and the accuracy of that touch are what determine your success. At higher difficulty levels with more objects to hit it’s somewhat easier than Beat Saber as there are no requirements for you to compute the direction your hands need to move through the block. Experience with longer play sessions also generated much less stress or pressure on the player ”
Over time, Synth Rider has had more and more songs as DLCs, along with smaller updates. This latest update will bring it in line with the Apple Visiioon Pro, Samsung Galaxy XR and Snap Specs versions by allowing players to put the controllers down as they play.
As an extra note, if you are ahead of the household technology curve and are planning on purchasing the Meta VR glasses in Spring, you will find that Synth Riders will also be fully controller free from the get go.
This update comes along the addition – for the newer devices – of a Neon Bloom visual effect. This will cause the neon-emitting visuals to reflect on other objects within the play space, rather than simply emitting but not interacting.
Developers Kluge have also confirmed that this isn’t a final hurrah for Synth Riders – saying that they’re still working hard on adding more songs to the library as well as overhauling progression including how they manage rewards.
