Wielders of the Essence, Lavapotion’s Bullet Heaven Songs of Conquest Spinoff, gets November release date

0

Fresh off squeezing out the Yulan faction for Songs of Conquest, Lavapotion have just announced the release date for their run-based, roguelite spin-off, Wielders of the Essence; It’ll release on November 5th.

It seems like everybody and their mum is working on an ‘incremental’ game following the success of Vampire Survivors, however, whether you think that the recently co-opted idle-genre title name fits the bill of the surging Bullet Heaven (or whatever you call it) genre, it’s hard to deny that Wielders of the Essence is one of the most charming looking of the recent deluge.

That charm is basically 100% down to the fantastic artwork that dominated Songs of Conquest, the pixelated twist on the sprite-based RTS of the 90s. In fact, it was that same visual flair that won over our reviewer, Matt, at the time:

“In terms of how Songs of Conquest looks, for me it’s a win. Yes, this is pixel-art (which we’ve seen a lot of over the past few years) but it’s the kind of densely detailed, smooth pixel-art that I can’t help but love. Characters have real detail and personality, as do buildings and other aspects in the environment. Despite how small everything is, I never really felt that I was having to squint to see things, or that I was missing the detail due to the sizing. ”

Songs of Conquest offers turn-based Might and Magic in spades

Unlike Songs of Conquest’s turn-based trawl, and campaign, to save your faction, with Wielders of the Essence you’ll be building up your base between real-time runs; levelling up your bonuses, unlocking new unit options, and amping your powers with the winnings that you take back to base after smashing through droves of enemies. Combat looks to be incredibly fast paced, with a lot of work being done by your troops as you carefully weave through and kite your enemies to their death.

Wields of the Essence will release for PC on November 5th. There’s a demo currently live on Steam.
