They’ve just announced a new retro title: Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu: The Ultimate History, which is a hardback book that aims to celebrate the rich, 35 year history of the Fatal Fury series, with in-depth notes on the legacy of these legends combined with detailed sprite sheets, gorgeous concept artwork, and carefully reproduced screenshots.
Garou Densetsu (Fatal Fury) is an iconic fighting game franchise from arcade masters SNK, which debuted in 1991, spawning several canon ‘main game’ instalments. Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu: The Ultimate History is a comprehensively written book filled with stunning illustrations, that aims to be a love letter to fighting games fans, full of lore, history, and fascinating insights into the development of the series.
The book has 460 pages, printed with special Pantone ink and premium paper, looking extremely luxurious. There are various candid interviews with key developers from across the Fatal Fury series, including pixel artists Hitoshi Okamoto, Youichiro Soeda, and Nobuyuki Kuroki, along with many, many others.
It’s very clear that this book has been lovingly put together, full of lots of details when it comes to the game’s vast history and the creators behind key aspects of the game. You will be bale to read about the history of each game in the series, including Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition, Fatal Fury: First Contact, Garou: Mark of the Wolves and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.
Along with the Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu: The Ultimate History standard edition, there is also a Collector’s Edition that features an exclusive slipcase that protects the book, while also featuring pressable buttons that have sound effects from the video game played. Both versions of the book will be available on May 20th.
