Hidden Cats in Paris – Cats by the Eiffel Tower
Hidden Cats is a series of games that feature cats hidden all around a city. It’s sort of like Where’s Waldo, but with hundreds of cats. In Hidden Cats in Paris, the formula is the same — there is a giant map themed around Paris, full of buildings, cats, vehicles, hot air balloons and more. Your job is simple, find and point out every cat there is.
At the start of the game, there are two levels; normal and advanced. Normal has the cats in set locations and has a few hints that can be used. Advanced has special cats, cats that change location and no hint system. Both of these levels aren’t too tricky to play, however we always play as a family with all five of us crowded around the Xbox trying to find the cats together.
As you look around the map, you will find that everything is just outlined and shaded, waiting for color. Finding all of the cats on a specific building or background element will bring color to that entire picture, kind of telling you what is already solved and what still needs a bit more of a look. In the normal mode, you are just looking out for cats, slowly filling the world with color as you uncover them all.
In the Advanced mode of Hidden Cats in Paris, there are special cats that you can find, which have description cards and unlock bonus levels. There is also a set number of people you need to find dotted around the town, which adds more fun to the game! Again, once you have completed an area, it does get colored in, which can help you. We don’t often use hints in the normal mode due to this coloring in effect, but do find them fun for when you get stuck.
Once you have unlocked all of the advanced cats, you get to play a sort of different type of the game. In these specific locations, which are places in Paris (like the Louvre, for example) you will need to find a set number of cats with only a hint. These cats can be hidden inside things and behind objects, with only the occasional bit of movement to indicate where they are. Nothing on the page becomes colorful until you find all the cats, and you only have one hint. It’s a challenging mode, but one that feels really rewarding when you finish and the place is full of color. Sometimes the cats you are looking for in the advanced levels are actually only the shape of cat faces or a pattern!
Hidden Cats in Paris is a very fun game, though sometimes the cursor on Xbox can feel a little funny, having trouble tapping the cats to select them. Sometimes it has felt like we were mistaking something that wasn’t a cat for one, when it turns out it’s just the silly cursor. Otherwise, it’s a very fun way to spend the afternoon, looking at and for cute cats.
You can find Hidden Cats in Paris on Nintendo Switch, Xbox and PC.
