Video Review | Masquerada: Songs and Shadow (Xbox One)
Masquerada: Songs & Shadows, from Witching Hour Studios and publisher Ysbryd Games, is a tactical ARPG with a unique setting: The Citte Della Ombre. The city is wracked with dissent as the class system is close to snapping under the tight squeeze of the power thirsty guildsmen class: The Masquerada. Enter the player character, Cicero Gavar, an experienced, exiled detective, and possibly the only solution to the imminent civil war.

Looking for our written review of the game? We’ve got you covered — it’s just here.
For those unfamiliar with the game, it features a deep, weaving story which sees players turned against their former allies as they fight for justice in the game’s rich setting. Combat includes a innovative system wherein players can pause real-time combat to set up, or plan, elemental combo attacks — each powered by the Venetian-style masks which have become synonymous with the game. This makes for a tight tactical layer not normally found in the, traditionally fast, genre.
Here’s the game’s features list from the game’s Steam page:
FEATURES:
- Your Fight, Your Pace: Use the tactical pause to control the rush of combat, position your party and plan their attacks by the second.
- A Game of Tag: Lay elemental magic tags upon your enemies, and activate the tags with another element for crowd-controlling status effects!
- Vivid Comicbook Art: Feast your eyes on dreamy colours and environmental linework inspired by French comic artists, blended with stylized 3D characters for a timeless aesthetic.
- A Fully Voiced Tale: The drama at the heart of Ombre unfolds over 12 hours of narrative, fully voiced by VO heavyweights like Matthew Mercer and Jennifer Hale.”
Masquerada: Songs and Shadow is available now on PC (Steam Link), Xbox One, and PS4.
