Gameblast17 Has Begun! Gamers Have Begun Raising Funds For Gamers With Disabilities

It’s the 24th of February, which means that Gameblast17 has begun, and will continue to run until the 26th.

Gameblast17 is a gaming event that is helping raise funds for a charity called, SpecialEffect. I ran a news piece that features more information on the charity and the event which you can view here. That coverage also explains that anyone can take part in raising money for the charity.

The Gameblast17 has a goal to raise £100,000 to help fund devices and means for disabled gamers to continue, or begin to enjoy playing video games. On day one they have already raised 20% of that £100,000, with yesterday’s blog post stating that they have already raised, £20,000.

Thanks to the Twitch partnership, Gameblast17 has its own directory on the Twitch website, meaning that those who are doing a live stream for the charity can search “Gameblast17” and add it as a game in their streaming settings. There are also world record attempts being attempted by GAME and Multiplay, during their live streams,  Ubisoft, SUMO Digital, Wired Productions, Bethesda and Bandai Namco are running auctions on eBay and are donating through the funds raised from these auctions. You’ll find signed merchandise, gaming chairs, books, controllers, and more. Just have a look.

Ripstone, Rare, SEGA, Nomad and Testology are amongst industry teams that are also taking part in raising money for the SpecialEffect charity.

Important: The blog post also mentions this, but I feel it’s also important to throw out there, but given the recent news of Brian “Poshybrid” Vigneault passing away during a 24 hour stream marathon, take care if you are running a similar thing. Take breaks, drink, eat, and by all means feel free to stop the stream if you feel like you can’t make it. Don’t push yourself too hard, you’re already making a difference.

I’ll return with news when the weekend is out to check on the amount raised.

This was informative. May I add something? Do you know that with Binfer you can stream videos to recipients directly from your computer? A nice option to stream videos from your computer.
