Watch: Robert Kirkman’s Thief of Thieves Video Game Adaption Announced with Trailer
Thief of Thieves, a new stealth, story title from Rival Games, creators of The Detail, will launch in 2018.
Rival Games, the creators of The Detail, have today -alongside Skybound Entertainment- announced their next title as Thief of Thieves, an adaption of the comic series of the same name from Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead series.
Thief of Thieves sees players controlling Celia, the protege of master thief Conrad ‘Redmond’ Paulson, to complete missions and jobs through various stages of execution. This means that you’ll take on everything from conversational management to lockpicking – there’s also going to be stealth sections in the game too.
Much like the adaption of The Walking Dead from Telltale, and Rival Games’ The Detail, Thief of Thieves will be built episodically, with the first series of four episodes set to release in 2018.
The visuals shown off in the trailer, which you can find below, certainly channel Kirkman’s art-style, now synonymous with the modern narrative adventure titles. That said, some of the most interesting elements of the trailer are entirely new to the genre. Early on we see the protagonist scouting out an area during the day, only to then sneak through the property while it is in lockdown late at night. There’s also a section where the character is undercover, and looks to be evading potential witnesses as they weave through a lobby with a box.
Probably the most interesting element however is the base of operations that we see the character moving through, this infers that we’ll be returning here after most episodes, which means that we’ll possibly be seeing tight, stand-alone episodes which simply culminate in a build up to the finale – preparation, discovery, preparation, conclusion. The idea that the developers, and publishers Skybound, area already commited to more than one series also bodes well on the potential depth of characters introduced in the game.
But, alas, for cement details we’ll have to wait for a little bit longer. With the first series expected to start in early 2018 there’s not likely to be much in the way of cement features -or even gameplay shown off- for at least a couple of months.
Thief of Thieves is expected to begin its first series in early 2018. So far only Windows PC has been announced as a platform.
