Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Bloodmoon makes death your friend

Stop mooning me!

Do you want more Vampire Survivors? Of course you do! The Vampire Survivors: Legacy of the Bloodmoon DLC is another great addition to the base game.

I haven’t played Vampire Survivors for a spell, instead trying out a few different survive-’em-ups as well as the really rather enjoyable spin off Vampire Crawlers. It didn’t take much for the Legacy of the Bloodmoon DLC to drag me back into that hugely addictive loop though. This is another DLC for a fantastic base game and it once again delivers great additions for a bargain price.

I’m not one that follows the lore of the game and its additional content, but I do try to play most of the expansions that come along. This time you’re playing as a bunch of bad guys based on the details on the Steam page, but as far as I’m concerned, this is another set of interesting and powerful new characters and weapons along with an expansive map.

The new weapons are outrageously powerful when evolved, as you’d expect them to be!

Taking place in and around the Red Moon Manor, you’ll get to pick from a number of new characters from the Bloodmoon clan and those surrounding them as you try to explode as many monsters as you can in that iconic thirty minute time limit. Each comes with their own weapon and ability, some of which are very effective and increase in power each time they die and revive. I quite liked the focus on using revives to become ever more powerful as it works with my rather gung-ho playstyle rather well.

As ever you’ve got weapon evolutions to work out as you play, some of which are far trickier to figure out than others. Thank god for experts in amongst those Steam guides figuring it all out within an hour of the DLC launching! There are some obscenely effective ones too, although I don’t think I’ve quite got to the point of the game breaking combinations I managed in the Emergency Meeting DLC that came out a couple of years ago just yet.

Getting the map early is pretty essential for the new stage.

Game mechanics haven’t changed much, but the main new level is quite convoluted and it pays to find the map for it early on to help you navigate some of the corridors inside the manor house itself. It’s easy to get cornered by some rather sizable and powerful bosses if you don’t know where to go. I did like the layout of it though. It felt very Castlevania.

The music though! Absolutely outstanding and over the top as you would hope. My daughter was watching me play and commented on how insanely dramatic the soundtrack was. I’ve praised the soundtracks of these DLC packs in the past, but I feel like this is the best one so far.

Poncle have gone for some fairly sizeable bosses again.

Put simply, if you like Vampire Survivors, you’ll love this as much as ever. Lots of new content to try out and discover along with a slew of new characters and weapons to test out on all those old maps where you’ll probably be far too overpowered. I hope the developers continue to add new packs for this as every time a new one comes along I just get dragged back in!
