Underwater Vehicular Combat – Aquanox: Deep Descent Multiplayer Footage Released
Aquanox: Deep Descent, Digital Arrow & THQ Nordic’s submersive combat game, has hit a build where closed multiplayer testing can begin.
The title, which successfully completed a Kickstarter campaign back in 2015, is a modernisation of the AquaNox series originally developed by Massive Development – the reimagining is set to include RPG elements alongside a narrative that actively encourages exploration. The real focus at this moment in time however appears to be in getting the game’s PVP implemented; and to that end Kickstarter backers have been invited to closed beta testing as of a few days back.
I caught up with THQ Nordic’s Florian Emmerich earlier in the year and discussed the title; at the time the game, which was meant to be being showcased at the event in question, had been withdrawn with short notice due to the team not being happy with the quality of the build. While discussing the games on show he discussed their habit of porting to as many platforms as possible, ‘Because, why not?’, certainly a pattern that’s visible in their recent bringing of De Blob to PC after nine years, and plans to launch Lock’s Quest on the platform after a similar gap.
That said, there’s no solid word on whether Aquanox: Deep Descent will make landfall on consoles; it actually failed to achieve the stretch goals for Xbox One & PS4 releases. So, time will tell.
To mark the start of the beta, the team released the below ‘tips and tricks’ video for players as they are invited into the build.
Further betas are confirmed going forward up until the planned launch date of the title for PC in Q4 of this year. Keep your eyes peeled, as we’ll be looking to post whenever opportunity arises to get hands on with the game prior to launch.
