Stylish synthwave scroller Atomic Owl gets a physical release this year

0
Indie side-scroller Atomic Owl is receiving both standard and deluxe physical releases in December of 2026, in the scene’s most recent celebration of physical media. For those who appreciated its gorgeous art and flowing animations, the deluxe edition case and soundtrack disc are a welcome sight, very much in keeping with its style.

We may have found that Atomic Owl was a game with more style than substance when we had our hands on it, but not all games need to have DOOM Eternal levels of gameplay focus. The art, music and world (as well as some solid foundations) make Atomic Owl well worth a look. The developers at Monster Theatre are no strangers to physical media, either, as there has previously been a limited run of OST Vinyls for this game. With it having been  successfully ported from PC to Steamdeck in the recent past, and then on to all major consoles, this indie is certainly plucky.

“Its synthwave aesthetic and chiptune soundtrack brought me right back to the PS1-era of gaming, and made me eager to dig in.“

Atomic Owl is an ambitious 80’s Synthwave Side-Scroller

In addition to the physical release, the game has sported an update since our review that reworks systems and even implements a “No Roguelike” option to create a single playthrough campaign. These changes and the physical collection could be a great reason to jump back in.

Atomic Owl Physical Edition for PS5

The release is currently limited to Asian English audiences on PlayStation 5. The standard edition includes the game on disc and a physical manual (ah, those were the days). The deluxe edition also throws in the OST on disc and a fancy sleeve for your copy of the game.

Both the standard and deluxe versions release in December 2026.

You can play Atomic Owl on PC or on XBOX, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch consoles
