Retro Pixel Castles Renamed to Rise to Ruins
As I booted up my Steam client after getting in from work yesterday I nonchalantly checked my downloads -a process I normally do as to quickly spot any sudden updates. There in solidarity sat one small update, for a title I didn’t recognise. Rise to Ruins. Clicking on it revealed that the game was in fact Retro Pixel Castles with a new name.
I’ve owned Retro Pixel Castles for a short time, and booted it two or three times; it was heavily recommended to me because I have a library full of colony development titles like Gnomoria, Rimworld, Clockwork Empires, etc. It’s quite a fun little game, and I had intended to return to it at some point soon.
What’s the reason for the rename? The developer decided back in December that the change was needed for a few reasons, but the most obvious being the fact that the game was really a village simulator, and so didn’t really have anything to do with the name it launched with – which I feel is a very fair point.
In addition to the name change, the game also updated to version 24, which among other things added a village efficiency system which will see certain buildings boost productivity; in addition to this buildings can be upgraded, and the chance of (and in which quantities) nomads appearing has also been changed.
