Mini Boss Babble Episode 9: Part 4 – Cuphead

Mini Boss Babble are smaller, one topic cuts from our otherwise extensive weekly podcast.

In this Mini Boss Babble we discuss the recently released Cuphead. Well, by ‘we’ we mean that Terry tells us a bit about his experiences with the game — as he’s the only one of the hosts who have played it thus far — while the the other two chip in with their thoughts on the game’s heavily discussed difficulty.

As many of you will know, Cuphead’s difficulty has been quite divisive, with the developer’s decision to not have health bars, and the game featuring lengthy, multi-phase boss battles, causing a bit of a stir in the run up to the game’s launch. Naturally the team’s discussion shifts ever so slightly back to ‘NES Hard’ and arcade titles before coming full circle and discussing the malleability of the game’s artwork.

Currently sitting at Overwhelmingly Positive over on Steam, where it launched on the 29th of September, the game has definitely benefited in the word of its difficulty getting out before launch; of the game’s over 11 thousand reviews (of which only 400~ are negative) almost all discuss the difficulty of the game, certainly more than discuss the well-defined art style.

Terry leads the topic, while Dann & Toby fail at refraining from mentioning Dark Souls.
