Greenlight Highlight | Use Your Words

Title: Use Your Words
Developer: Smiling Buddha Games
[Greenlight Page]

What type of game is it?

Party

What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?

A party game with five different minigames, with lobbies accessible to any HTML5 device; modes include filling in blanks, dubbing a movie, and writing newspaper headlines to suit provided images.

What do we like most about it?

I really enjoy the dial-in-lobby quiz games like this that turn the room into a game-show, and I was really starting to worry that Jackbox Games (Fibbage, Jackbox Party Pack 1/2, etc, etc) had nailed down some sort of a trademark on the technology, what with the almost complete absence of games using it.

The five included games all seem really fun, although the greenlight page only really does a good job of highlighting Extra Extra (the headline generation one), and Sub The Title. There was a Kickstarter project which assured around 20hours of no-repeat content, and also featured a pitch video which highlighted a game mode that possibly corresponds best to Blank-O-Matic of the remaining unshown game modes.

A feature that the team cite as a major difference between UYW and the Jackbox titles is a selection of pre-made answers which are available for players to pick from in order to mix up the gameplay a little should they find themselves stuck without an answer.

If the game truly manages to deliver that scale of content, and is the right price (pre-orders were $15 via Kickstarter, which seems a tad steep, but we shall see) then I’m sure that Use Your Words will go down like a house on fire.

When’s it due?

Use Your Words is set to release in the fourth quarter of this year for Windows PC & Mac.
