Title: Omicron Sector
Developer: Seven Hams / L. David Aites
What type of game is it?
What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?
Mankind manages to reopen a trade gate to a long lost sector. The small crew sent through have one goal to navigate the sector and find a way to permanently open the link back to the home system. However nobody knows what the centuries of abandonment have done to the people who used to reside in the Omicron Sector.
What do we like most about it?
The setting is absolutely fantastic – humanity had limitless energy for a time, and during that time they traveled the gates and expanded throughout the various sectors en masse. In that golden age the new horizons were built and populated with zero energy efficiency in mind, we also toyed with science, things that shouldn’t be dabbled with.
Take away the power and the trade gate shuts down, the frontiers can’t maintain themselves or even be re-powered efficiently, and as for the experiments… survival of the fittest.
Anything else worth shouting about?
It’s all made by one chap, and considering the scale of what’s on show, the depth of the character stats, and the variety within the game… that’s a pretty big deal.
When’s it due?
Late 2016/Early 2017 is listed on the Steam page, although I suppose it all depends on the feature implementation, as long as there’s regular updates I’m sure people can afford to wait until the game is just right.
