What type of game is it?
What’s the 30 second elevator pitch?
A classic, hardcore arena shooter, but one where rather than obscure gravity levels and boosters you have a grappling gun which can pull you to the very heights of the levels, or speed you to any platform you lock on to.
What do we like most about it?
The grapple gun – or, we should say Tether – is a very cool mechanic that I’m surprised I’ve not seen used in arena shooters or more modern FPS’ so far. It also fits right in with the simplistic, deliberately(?) dated visuals that the game projects in its sharp edged objects, laser cage, and glowing weapons.
The game is going to be entirely free to play, however is only enabled for local multiplayer which will certainly hamper many. That said, if you have the capacity for LAN matches then I’m sure that this will be a regular feature if you have any fond memories of Quake or Unreal.
When’s it due?
CAGE is almost ready for release, with a Fall 2016 launch planned for Windows PC, and Mac.
