Coral Island 1.3 Ocean and Kisses Update out now
Coral Island, the slice of life adventure game where you move to a small, ocean-side town to run a farm, integrate with the locals, and maybe become a mermaid have had their 1.3 Ocean and Kisses update, which is now out for Xbox, PC and PlayStation. This update is full of some updates like the save system, and adding in new actions in multiplayer, but also has some new content!
We previously reviewed Coral Island:
“Apart from getting lost too much, there is a lot to do within the game; people to meet and talk too, errands to run, a farm to get into shape. I spent my days watering my limited number of plants and running any sort of errand that is posted at the board within the town. Fishing is also pretty fun and a great way to earn money to upgrade your little house and purchase more seeds!”
The 1.30 Ocean and Kisses update has added two new dateable NPCs! The first being Agung, who can be romanced after completing Merfolk Chaperone Part 3 and then meeting his relationship requirements to be in a relationship with him. His heart event cutscene now replays once from the start, so you can revisit his story even if you are further along. Raina can be romanced after the Recreation Center opens and their relationship needs are met.
NPCs also are now able to invite the player to Hangout, if they are datable and interested. After any dialogue with a datable NPC who you have 2 hearts or higher with, that NPC has a base chance of 50% to invite the player to a hangout, which is increased the more that you interact. The location that you hangout at is random, and then the NPC will have a cooldown afterwards even if you do not accept the invite. Declining doesn’t make your hearts go lower and NPC-initiated hangouts do not count against the weekly hangout limit, which feels very balanced.
There are also now in-game wedding anniversaries from the Coral Island 1.3 Ocean and Kisses update, along with a jealousy and attention systems, where NPCs react when the player grows closer to other potential partners. This is especially interesting if you try to romance sibblings!
For the Ocean part of this update, there is a new festival: the Festival of the Sun, which takes place in the Merfolk Kingdom from Summer 19th to 21st. You will need to complete the Resupply Merfolk Kingdom II and Merfolk Chaperone Part 4 in order to attend.
There are more slice-of-life cutscenes added for Merfolk NPCs, along with speech bubbles, gift-receiving interactions for underwater creatures, and new Merfolk food recipes as well as the ability to have an underwater wedding!
This update also contains a lot of other improvements to farming, ranching, and new furniture updates. It’s just so nice to see even more being added to Coral Island.
