Christmas Game Recommendations (Xbox One)

Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin flew away!

Yes, it is that time of year again, when many of us have a mad dash to find the most appropriate present for the gamer in our life. Christmas. Here at Big Boss Battle, we know the pain of staring at various games, not knowing if the choice you make will sit on the shelf after five minutes or become their new ‘‘Favourite’’. We also know that budget-wise, many of you do not have a fortune to spend, so sometimes those big, expensive games are just not feasible. Don’t worry, we have taken that into account, too.

To help with that deluge of pain and frustration, we have decided to help you out by putting forward a few compelling cases for games we think the gamer in your life needs. So sit back, flick on the heating and raise a festive drink whilst we solve all your Christmas gaming related woes. Hurrah!

For those with an Xbox, we have the following choices:

7+ Years — UNBOX: Newbie’s Adventure

Lemme at ‘im

For those of a younger persuasion, we need something colourful, bright and imaginative which will not only be age appropriate but fun for all the family, as we all know the little ones may get a little bored without input from you or their siblings.

To this end, the one game released this year that shone above the rest and was perfect for all ages was UNBOX: Newbie’s Adventure. This cheeky little title may not be on your radar, but its bright environments and cute story will keep the even the most fussy of little ones content… at least for more than five minutes.

UNBOX tells the heroic tale of one box’s struggle to save the Global Postal Service (GPS) from certain demise. GPS have been losing parcels all over the place and so, in a last-ditch attempt to save themselves, have developed what Amazon can only dream about – self-delivering packages!

From Bigbossbattle, PC Review

With bosses, collectables and a range of challenges within a variety of different, visually beautiful levels, this title caught our eye for its unique look and overall sense of fun. UNBOX features shared/split screen, local co-op and local multiplayer for up to four players.

The price isn’t a wallet killer either, at £20, so for the hours you can get out of this title, it is well worth a look! To buy the game, you can purchase it from its Microsoft store page.

Teen — Masquerada: Songs and Shadows

Now we all know this is a very difficult one to recommend thanks to every teen’s constant changing emotions or choices of what’s ‘‘KOOL’’ being in constant flux. You want something challenging, but not enough to get the game thrown across the wall in a fit of rage. At the same time, it needs to provide something meaningful and entertaining.

Well, I may have come up with something magical for all your teen angst needs. Masquerada: Songs and Shadows. This blew us away with its visuals, RPG elements and the most sensitive and touching storyline — picking up a wide range of modern-day issues — we had seen to date.

Masquerada is a single-player tactical RPG set in a Renaissance-inspired city of magic, where real-time combat can be paused to set up elemental combos powered by Venetian-style masks.

This single player game boasts tactical pause to control the rush of combat, position your party and plan their attacks by the second. Lay elemental magic tags upon your enemies and activate the tags with another element for crowd-controlling status effects! It has a vivid, comic book style and a wonderful, fully voiced tale that is over twelve hours long.

This is actually the cheapest of our recommendations, at £16! To buy the game, you can purchase it from its Microsoft store page.

Adult — The Surge: Complete Edition

The last of our age ranges is probably the easiest. They are probably after something adventurous, epic and enjoyable but still challenging. They may have even have been giving you the worst kinds of hints possible, like pointing at the game, talking about it repeatedly at any given chance, or even worse… saying they will buy it and you just need to give them the money.

However, should they have failed to provide you with any of these points and you are completely bemused, we have a contender for you.

The Surge: Complete Edition borrows elements from Dark Souls with its own unique hi-tech twist, which managed to convert some of our die-hard Dark-Souls–hating staff.

The Surge is a single-player tactical RPG. A catastrophic event has knocked you out during the first day on the job… you wake up equipped with a heavy-grade exoskeleton, in a destroyed section of the complex. Robots gone haywire, insane augmented co-workers and rogue AI — everything wants you dead.

It boasts targeting and the ability to slice specific limbs off your foes, with a next-gen loot system where you loot what you dismember. Equip, upgrade and craft new weapons and armor sliced from enemies. Make yourself stronger through a fresh take on leveling-up. The complete edition gives all DLC including A Walk in the Park and provides over forty hours of high adrenaline fun.

This is the most expensive of our recommendations, at £45! To buy the game, you can purchase it from its Microsoft store page.

We hope that this has helped to reduced those Christmas woes to a minimum and will secure a little harmony over the Christmas holidays. (Note: we cannot take responsibility for arguments with family/friends). At the very least, we hope we have provided you with some ideas which may help you on your way in terms of getting that special gaming gift, and raise you to monumental awe in the recipient’s eyes.

And with that, we bid you a farewell. From all of us at Big Boss Battle…

Have a Merry Christmas!
