Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is out now, with a discount
Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is now out, with a 20% launch discount until May 18th.
Scattered Hopes picks up where the modern series starts, with an attack on the twelve colonies by the Cylons. Rather than taking on the titular Battlestar, you’re instead put in charge of a Gunstar that must escort a fleet of survivors to attempt to reunite with the Galactica. So far, so straight-forward, the real wrinkle here doesn’t come from the setting — which most fans will be familiar with — or even the shift in ship and focus on events… no, it comes in the fact that exactly the right team for this project is at the helm. At least that’s what our EiC will tell you.
You see, Alt Shift are the team who made the fantastic Crying Suns, an FTL-like about leading a ship, against the odds, through hostile space. Sounds familiar, right?
You will need to leverage your crew’s individual strengths and find a way to pull through against the odds. There is a big balance between scavenging for resources and resolving disputes between factions within your fleet. You’ll also need to carry out repairs and track down your potential Cylon imposters among your own ranks.
Combat in Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes is also high risk and intense. You can deploy fighters and command them in hybrid, real-time, turn-based tactical battles to neutralize the Cylons, minimizing damage to your main ship while also using its onboard defences against serious threats. To keep gameplay interesting, each run will have you learning new lessons as you adapt to the challenges you are facing in each level, with tactical options expanding, especially as you unlock different weapons, squads, and traits. There are also meta-upgrades that can be unlocked and used through your next run.
The game is currently discounted at 20% for the launch, so now’s the time to pick up the game and dive right in.
If you are looking for more Battlestar Galactica, we previously reviewed Battlestar Galactica Deadlock: The Broken Alliance:
“Most importantly (and it’s been a while), when I’m not playing Battlestar Galactica Deadlock: The Broken Alliance, I’m thinking about it incessantly. What if I would have done this? What if I would do that? Have I already blown the war? Should I start over? Obviously, the replayability is immeasurable. Yes, there is a ‘main story’, but you never know where the Cylons are going to appear. Even if one were, to say, accidentally save scum (purely for research purposes *cough, cough*), the Toasters show up in random places at the end of each turn — which is both fantastic and the way it’s supposed to be. For the battles, remember: you’re always outnumbered.”
