Wartales Gets a New Update – Criminals, Bounties, and Quests Await in Community Update #7
Shiro Games has released a chunky free update for their tactical RPG Wartales. Community Update 7 brings with it new features, systems, and those all important quality-of-life updates that the community has been asking for!
Firstly, what is Wartales? Starting in Early Access in 2021, and undergoing full release in 2023, Wartales has you controlling a band of mercenaries as a plague sweeps the land. This open world RPG features tactical-style turn-based combat, and we’ve had the pleasure of reviewing it twice. Whilst Iwantpie tackled the game during early access, Matthew took a gander at the full release, calling it “incredibly intuitive” and stating “…if you think you should be able to do something, you probably can”.
Wartales offers an amazing, personal journey, but lacks clear narrative
Now, onto the update. Firstly, we’re going to get a look at “The Lair”. This new location is situated underground, and is the home to all of those individuals that don’t entirely follow the letter of the law. If you earn enough Suspicion, you’ll earn an initiation to this haven, and have access to its unique services and opportunities. These include managing your troop’s Suspicion, fencing stolen items, accept contracts and buy gear for those a little more willing to hit you below the belt.
Prisoners are having their systems scrubbed up! They’ll now have a skill tree, as well as needs of their own (and clear information of what they are), and the detention system should now be clearer so you can understand the consequences of your actions.
Speaking of consequences, Personal Quests may now be offered to your mercenaries, offering risks and rewards in equal measure. There’s also a swathe of UI and battle improvements, some new maps and bounties, and a big chunk of bug updates. Shiro Games posted the full list of updates notes on the game’s Steam News Page.
